Six Good Eating Habits That Will Help Prevent Cancer

The American Institute for Cancer Research has released a 517-page report detailing the CONVENTIONAL medical view of what your main risk factors for developing cancer, and what you can do to reduce your risk.

Among their findings -- after reviewing more than 7,000 large-scale studies over the course of five years -- the Institute is now convinced that excess body weight increases your risk for the following types of cancer:

Colon

Kidney

Pancreas

Esophagus

Uterus, and breast cancer in post-menopausal women

The report also found that there are certain lifestyle changes that will reduce your risk of getting cancer:

1. Be as lean as possible within the normal range of body weight
2. Be physically active as part of everyday life
3. Limit consumption of "energy-dense foods," foods that are high in
calories, fat and sugar. Avoid sugary drinks
4. Eat mostly foods of plant origin, including fruits, vegetables,
whole grains and beans
5. Limit intake of red meat and avoid ALL processed meat
6. Limit alcoholic drinks to one per day for women, two per day for men
7. Limit consumption of salt. Avoid moldy grains or legumes
8. Aim to meet nutritional needs through diet alone, without dietary
supplement

New Rules Set for Meat Sold as Grass-Fed

As it stands right now, meat can be labeled grass-fed even if it is grain-fed. The good news is that new rules will require meat that is labeled grass-fed to actually be grass-fed. Click link to NY Times article below:

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT FLU SHOTS COULD HARM YOU

To have a flu shot or not to have a flu shot, that is the question. I do not take flu shots. The only time I took a flu shot was several years ago because it was mandatory by my employer. At that time I did not know what they contained. If you want to know the truth about flu shots click the following link: http://www.advancedhealthplan.com/bhflushots.html

Calcium Requirements Much Lower Than Previously Estimated

New studies reveal that we need less calcium in our diets than previously thought. If we are eating a nutrient-rich more alkaline diet such as the Super Antioxidant Diet we will absorb and retain more calcium. A diet rich in acid producing foods such as animal products causes the body to leech calcium from the bones to alkalize the body. L.A. Times Power of Produce Article

This is an interesting article on the power of produce. I am aware that some of the large studies that have been conducted on the correlation between the consumption of fruits and vegetables and disease have not been controlled. They took the word of the participants about how much produce they were eating rather than testing to see if they showed an increase of certain antioxidant levels in their tissues. In some cases those conducting the research did not recommend their subjects consume enough produce to show dramatic results. Also, it is necessary to consume a predominately plant based diet to experience dramatic results. It is also not just consuming plants but a proportionately larger portion of the most nutritious plant foods. Also, it is necessary to control how much oil, especially free oil as opposed to oil from whole foods such as nuts and seeds the subjects consume. In the studies I am aware of these factors were not addressed.

Weight is an important factor as well. Numerous studies have shown that people who are overweight are significantly more prone to disease than slender people. A person eating predominately plant foods who is overweight is consuming too many high calorie plant foods such as oils, breads, sugary foods, potatoes, grains, avocados, nuts and seeds, and in some cases too much fruit. The base of one's diet needs to be leafy greens and cruciferous veggies, then add the others in moderation, omitting entirely sugary foods and almost all free flowing oil.

I have repeatedly observed people claiming they eat loads of vegetables and yet they do not have the golden coloring from carotenoid antioxidants that comes from a disease protecting plant-based diet. I have also found that in most cases people who are not losing weight from a plant-based diet are consuming too many high calorie foods. They are either unaware of the guidelines for a disease reducing plant-based diet or deceiving themselves if they believe they are eating a healthy plant-based diet.

Even though many scientific studies show that a proper vegan diet is the healthiest way to eat some vegans look pale and unhealthy. The reason for this is they are not getting enough of the necessary 45 nutrients to sustain health. Granola, energy bars, protein/energy drinks, breads, oils, and loads of brown rice just won't do the job. Being a vegan is the healthiest way to go but you better know what you are doing. By the way, I'm a vegan.

John A. McDougall, M.D.

Physician and nutrition expert John A. McDougall, MD. has been studying, writing and "speaking out" about the effects of nutrition on disease for over 30 years.

Dr. McDougall has cared for thousands of patients over almost 3 decades of medical practice and has run a highly successful live-in program for more than 17 years.

Anti-Oxidant Supplements and Cancer

Recent scientific studies have found that isolated anti-oxidants consumed in supplement form have not been shown to be protective against disease. Some of these isolated anti-oxidants were actually linked to an increased risk of death. The studies did show that consuming anti-oxidants in whole foods is protective against disease.

Welcome to the Super Anti-Oxidant Lifestyle

My name is Robin Jeep and I've been professionally working with delicious food for over 20 years. I've been a gourmet chef, worked in the natural and organic industry in sales and marketing for Whole Foods Market, Organic Valley, and one of the major natural and organic products national distribution companies, and as a private chef to high profile celebrities including best-selling author Paul Meyer, founder of Success Motivation Institute, and Jeff Lynn, of the Electric Light Orchestra. I have also prepared healthy cuisine for celebrities like Paul McCartney, Wendy Malick, Peter Max, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Seal.

I've been nutritionally oriented since childhood. Most recently, I have authored a book, The Super Anti-Oxidant Diet and Nutrition Guide: A Health Plan for the Body, Mind, and Spirit, with cellular physiologist Richard Couey, PhD to be released by Hampton Roads Publishing in March 2008.

I am the founder of Vibrant Cuisine, an fusion of international cuisines using anti-oxidant-rich ingredients. I developed this cuisine because over the years I've seen that an abundance of anti-oxidant-rich food's healing properties in action. I know the food must be palate pleasing for people to adopt this super healthy way of eating.

It was not until 2002 when I suffered a near-death experience when a horse I was riding fell on top of me that I realized sharing this knowledge was my calling in life. While in the trauma unit the doctors had little hope because I was severely hemorrhaging internally and had fractured fourteen pelvic bones, my sacrum, and both hip joints. Later, the doctors attributed my amazing and rapid recovery to a healthy lifestyle and nutrient-rich diet.

During my recovery period I realized that I had a gift to offer--hope and healing to people. This gift is to create delicious and simply prepared dishes from anti-oxidant rich foods. I teamed up with Dr. Couey and we have developed an ultra healthy and delicious dietary program based on scientific principals. This program offers a holistic approach to nutritional education, personal growth, culinary instruction, physical fitness and healthy social interaction.

Through this blog I will provide you with cutting-edge science, recipes, and motivation so that you can learn and apply these principles that will show you how to get the necessary nutrients for your body to heal and maintain optional health. Please feel free to ask questions, add related information, or comment on the provided information. It is my deepest desire that you experience whole health and joy!

Thank you for dropping by.
